This summer, thanks to generous support from Sun Country Builders, Linc Housing’s summer camps are reaching more young residents than ever before. Spanning 18 communities, the camps are empowering youth to explore creativity, strengthen literacy skills, and build social-emotional confidence. With a continued focus on reading and language development, the 2025 camps were designed to be both educational and fun — ensuring that students stay engaged and avoid the “summer slide” in their academic progress.
The Springhaven Achievers spent their days immersed in literacy and creative expression. Campers like Jorge and Aubree read stories, practiced their ABCs, and brought words to life with colorful sidewalk chalk. After quiet reading and meditation, they explored nature by collecting bugs, turning a simple day into a full adventure of discovery and learning.
At Taylor Terrace, young campers made great strides in literacy. Campers learned to distinguish between syllables and sounds, and returning camper Mia, who learned to read during last year’s camp, now proudly mentors her friend Abigail, guiding her through sounding out new words. New books inspired campers like Farrah to help their peers, creating a culture of shared learning and encouragement.
At Mosaic Gardens in Pomona, literacy met science and life skills through S.T.E.A.M. projects like making ice cream in a bag and building marshmallow towers. Campers also built communication skills through guided drawing activities and engaged in focused reading time each day.
Meanwhile, campers at Holly Courts honed their reading while learning to make healthy treats like strawberry ice cream, and at Mosaic Gardens at Whittier, kids combined reading and real-world learning by cooking mac n’ cheese in teams — reading directions, measuring ingredients, and learning from each other’s outcomes in spirited group challenges.
At Equa, campers learned about artist Henri Matisse and created colorful collages in a hands-on blend of art, history, and self-expression. And at Fairview Heights, campers participated in an “Escape Room” teamwork activity and celebrated quiet reading time with their favorite books and juice boxes in hand.
From tie-dye triumphs at City Gardens to daily reading adventures throughout Linc communities, Summer Camp 2025 has been filled with learning, laughter, and new possibilities.
