National Program Taps Tomorrow’s Leaders to Save Energy, Money and the Environment

LONG BEACH, Calif., May 30, 2013 — LINC Housing, a nonprofit builder of affordable housing for low-income working families, fixed-income seniors and people with special needs, is proud to welcome an Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) Climate Corps fellow to its staff for the summer.

EDF’s objective through Climate Corps is to cut energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in organizations nationwide, by highlighting the financial and environmental gains from energy efficiency, and by sharing best practices and cost-effective ways for organizations to save energy.

Scott Hensley, an MBA student at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., joined LINC this week. His fellowship responsibilities will include creating a comprehensive, market-driven financing approach to fund multifamily energy conservation measures in California, and analyzing data from existing energy audits and usage history to build a compelling case allowing lenders and investors to underwrite financing based on cost savings.

“I’m really looking forward to working with LINC,” said Hensley. “I’ll have an opportunity to combine my interests in finance and environmental issues, in California, a state on the forefront of all of this type of work.”

Hensley is one of approximately 100 fellows who have been placed in companies, nonprofits, cities and universities nationwide. “LINC excited to be part of the EDF Climate Corps program,” said Hunter L. Johnson, LINC Housing president and CEO. “Scott will be one of the first fellows to assist with affordable housing issues. He’ll assist us with groundbreaking finance work that we’re doing on behalf of our industry. We’ll be advancing our mission to save environmental resources, while also creating jobs and healthier homes for underserved neighborhoods.”
