Longtime partnership supports housing and services for low-income Californians
LONG BEACH, Calif., February 23, 2012 — Citi today presented a $20,000 grant to LINC Housing, a Long Beach-based nonprofit builder of affordable housing for low-income families, seniors, and people with special needs. The grant, given during Citibank’s grand-opening celebration for its newest branch in Long Beach, will support special-needs housing in Southern California.
“Citibank and LINC are committed to creating strong communities and to improving the lives of individuals and families in need,” said Lisa Deloney, Marketplace president and Citibank division manager for Metro Southern California. “We are proud to open our new branch today and to stand with this great organization in support of the Long Beach community.”
The grant will support the development of more special-needs housing, such as SEASONS at Compton, which serves seniors and people with special needs, and The Palace apartments for former foster youth. Both were completed late last year.
“LINC intends to replicate these new models in other communities,” said Hunter L. Johnson, president and CEO of LINC. “Citi’s ongoing support of our work is one of the reasons for our continued success. We’re anxious to use this latest grant to serve our communities through housing.”
Citi has supported LINC Housing for many years, including numerous grants to fund both housing development activities as well as programs provided by LINC Cares, LINC’s resident services division. Specifically, grants have funded financial literacy classes for LINC residents and helped LINC begin to retrofit current buildings with sustainable, green features. Other grants enabled LINC to hire staff to focus on acquiring and preserving existing affordable housing.
In addition to grants, Citi was a key lender for Pepperwood Apartments in Rancho Cucamonga and Tahquitz Court in Palm Springs. Citi is also a longtime supporter of LINC’s Annual Tribute to Affordable Housing Leaders, an industry event that shines a spotlight on affordable housing while also raising funds for LINC programs.
