Family Housing
Avenal is a farming town in Californias central valley that lies
a few miles west of Interstate 5. The roads are lined with onion, lettuce,
and cotton fields. There are two grocery stores, two cafes, a quaint hotel,
and three gas stations in this agricultural town, and now there are 81 new
apartments for the families that work on Avenals farms. LINC has
partnered with Simpson Housing Solutions to develop El Palmar Apartments
with two, three, and four bedroom rentals in a beautiful setting that
includes a community center with activity rooms, a counseling and education
center, computer lab with high speed internet access, laundry and kitchen
facilities, as well as a managers office.
LINC has made quality affordable housing for Californias farm working
families an important part of our work plan. Although agriculture is a leading
industry in our state, decent housing for its workers is in short supply. El
Palmar Apartments in Avenal has joined our new properties in Blythe, Coachella,
and Palm Springs bringing our completed number of farm worker homes to 351. By
harvest in 2005, we will have opened doors to new apartments in the cities of
Merced and Parlier, and our expanding farm worker portfolio includes communities
underway in Orange Cove, Barstow, and Corcoran bringing our total number of
homes for farm working families to 796.
