STATE FARM GRANT FUNDS EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS WORKSHOPS FOR RESIDENTS AT FOUR LINC HOUSING SENIOR COMMUNITIES
LONG BEACH, Calif., Aug. 6, 2010 Thanks to a $5,000 grant from State Farm, residents
at four LINC Housing senior communities in Los Angeles County will be able to attend Emergency
Preparedness Workshops this month.
Each event, organized by LINCs resident services program LINC Cares, will feature a one-hour
workshop that will cover a variety of topics including: understanding what happens during an emergency,
learning how to protect important documents, preparing for a disaster, securing your home prior to a
disaster, creating a medical and family contact list, and customizing a disaster kit. Following the
workshop, attendees can explore a resource fair with information from the police department, fire
department, Red Cross, State Farm and other local organizations involved with safety and disaster
preparedness as well as quality of life issues and low-cost programming for seniors. Attendees will
also receive an emergency preparedness kit with a variety of useful items including a battery operated
flashlight/radio combo and first aid supplies.
Our senior residents often tell us theyre concerned about what to do in an emergency or
natural disaster, shared Maria Marquez, LINC Cares director of resident services. With
State Farms help, were able to give them the information they need so they can properly
prepare, helping put their minds at ease.
The event at SEASONS at Lakewood will be on August 10, Somerset Glen Apartments (La Mirada) on
August 17, SEASONS at Redondo Beach on August 24, and SEASONS at the Hoover (Whittier) on
August 31.
