In Los Angeles County alone, more than 22,000 children are in foster care, and every year about 1,400 leave the system. Without meaningful intervention, many of these young people will become homeless or chronically unemployed within two to four years. In March, Betty moved to SEASONS at Redondo Beach from another senior living facility where she had lived for two years. Since 2009, Linda has had legal custody of her eleven-year-old granddaughter, Charlie. Charlie’s parents were not in the position to care for her, and Linda was determined to do what she could to make sure Charlie’s life was stable, even though she herself is on a fixed income. Before Michael came to live at the brand new SEASONS at Compton apartment community, he rented a room in a house that was less than healthy. “I had to fight away rats that tried to get our food,” he said.
