LINC Cares Resident Services

Elena was a LINC Housing resident at Lorena Heights Apartments where she faithfully attended the job readiness program beginning in August 2016. Elena showed determination and a positive attitude while applying to several jobs. After first entering the computer lab, Elena was motivated to begin editing her résumé and cover letter. Soon she began searching for full-time positions as an administrative assistant. She also applied for school secretary, medical records clerk, and receptionist jobs where she could continue to expand her experience and skills.

This process wasn’t always easy for Elena. She often felt she lacked the necessary skills for the job she wanted. Despite feelings of inadequacy, Elena was determined to continue moving toward her goals. She was empowered to apply to more than 30 jobs in two and a half months and gained confidence using the internet to search for jobs, access her email account, and research best practices in job hunting. After her tireless and diligent job quest, Elena was hired at Dignity Health in San Bernardino as a Radiology Clerk.

One of Elena’s long-term goals was to purchase a house with her husband in San Bernardino County. After years of saving and months of house searching, they were able to purchase their very own home. Elena’s new job and expanded professional confidence will help her family thrive in this new stage of their lives. Mayra, a LINC Cares staff member reported, “Elena was determined to succeed from the very first day we sat in the computer lab to update her résumé. She set her own roadmap to success, and with hard work made her dreams come true.” We at LINC Cares are proud of Elena’s accomplishments and honored to be part of her journey.
