Class Title: Sustainability Project Manager
Position Status: Full Time
FLSA Status: Exempt
Effective Date: March 2017

General Nature & Scope of Work

Under the supervision of the Vice President of Sustainability, performs a range of duties in support of implementing the company’s sustainability projects building LINC’s industry leadership in green practices and adding value to the company through high performing design and operations in energy, water, renewables, and other sustainable best practices. The Sustainability Project Manager is expected to promote a corporate culture and demonstrate market leadership that is committed to sustainability and strategic energy management. Serves as a contact person for entities involved in the sustainability efforts for retrofit of existing portfolio and new developments, directs activities of outside consultants. Performs feasibility analysis; secures or reviews all necessary documents and plans, and assists with project financing. Oversees coordination of required materials for retrofit strategies, project financing, and internal and external approvals, and plans and documents prepared by outside engineers, architects, contractors and monitors performance of consultants on projects. Typically manages sustainability projects of average complexity with moderate supervision.

Illustrative Examples of Work/Essential Functions

•   Identify, manage and implement energy efficiency, water efficiency retrofit projects and renewable energy projects at LINC properties and other multifamily properties including managing assessment, design and construction work, coordinating with property management, asset management, and residents, and coordinating all vendors.
•   Manage energy audits associated with LINC’s sustainability related programs
•   Manage budgets, contracts and invoices for all on going projects
•   May participate in the certification process for LEED Homes and LEED EB: O+M as well as other sustainability programs
•   Manage, benchmark, and report on status of energy and water usage using ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager accounts, Wegowise, or other measurement and verification programs as needed
•   Prepare reports and presentations demonstrating the progress and success of completed projects, and share information in industry forums, conferences and other venues
•   Support the Vice President of Sustainability in the implementation of sustainability projects across LINC’s portfolio
•   Be an internal spokesperson for LINC’s sustainability programs
•   Other special projects as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of:
•   Working understanding of project management techniques and practices
•   Standard methods and techniques used in sustainability improvements analysis, and in preparation and monitoring of construction and project financing
•   Applicable federal, state and local laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures; familiarity with recent funding programs, regulations and requirements
•   Working understanding of energy auditing and modeling practices and standards
•   Working understanding of sustainability financing sources
•   Green standards such as LEED, Green Communities, CalGreen, and Energy Star
Skill Level:
•   Proficient in the use of personal computers and Microsoft Office products
•   Strong analytical and organizational skills
•   Experience with “hands on” responsibility for implementing sustainability improvement efforts for residential or commercial projects
•   Able to work well in team environment; excellent interpersonal skills for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, vendors, other departments and city staff, city officials and the public
Ability to:
•   Speak and write in English
•   Review and respond to construction and project financing applications
•   Review complex data and make appropriate recommendations for application procedures
•   Read, interpret, apply and explain codes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures
•   Monitor the work of outside vendors for compliance with scope of work contained in contracts
•   Build collaborative relationships with internal staff and external industry leaders
•   Able to work independently with moderate supervision

Education & Experience
A combination of education and related experience may substitute for education requirements.

•   Bachelor’s Degree in architecture, sustainability, environmental science, or related field
•   LEED project experience
•   LEED accreditation, desired
•   2-4 years of work experience with some exposure to multifamily retrofits desired

•   Work is performed primarily in an office environment under pressure and requires the ability to quickly adjust to changing priorities and demands
•   While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and use a keyboard
•   Travel by various modes of private and commercial transportation within the region may be required
•   Occasional fieldwork may be required
•   Must be physically capable of lifting, bending, climbing, standing and walking, especially pertaining to inspection of buildings where navigation of stairs, crawl spaces, attics, roofs, etc. will be required
