General Nature & Scope of Work

Under the general supervision of the Corporate Development Manager, the Corporate Writer researches funding opportunities, prepares grant proposals, and produces communications to support LINC’s fundraising, policy, and event activities.

Illustrative Examples of Work/Essential Functions

•   With direction from the Corporate Development Manager, write and coordinate small grant applications (generally up to $25,000) and support components of larger grant proposals as needed
•   Research and recommend new funding opportunities
•   Assist with grant tracking and reporting
•   Create messaging: write copy for communications such as email and print newsletters, brochures, website, event materials, social media, impact report, community outreach materials, internal communications, etc.
•   Coordinate and write copy for donor appeals/campaigns to increase repeat donations
•   Assist with grant and donor tracking in Raiser’s Edge
•   Coordinate auction donations and other in-kind donation requests as needed, including online applications and mailings
•   Work with the Corporate Development team on support letters and/or calls related to pending affordable housing policies at the local, state, and federal level
•   Assist Corporate Development department with other writing tasks and special projects as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of:
•   Writing and editing, including proper grammar and punctuation usage
•   Internet research methodology
•   Elements of programs design/management and evaluation standards
•   Practices, procedures, and terminology for grant writing
•   Basic knowledge of Raiser’s Edge
•   Community needs for affordable housing, supportive housing, and related social services
Skill Level:
•   Superior writing and communication skills
•   Strong analytical skills for interpreting research and preparing recommendations
•   Excellent interpersonal skills for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other departments, public officials, industry executives, foundation and corporate managers, donors, volunteers, interns, and the general public
Ability to:
•   Perform online research, including databases
•   Develop and prepare project budgets
•   Efficiently organize complex information
•   Creatively integrate and present information
•   Work in a creative team environment
•   Provide creative input to varying projects in a multi-faceted department
•   Demonstrate strong attention to detail
•   Meet multiple deadlines and set priorities in a fast-paced environment
•   Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in working with multiracial and multilingual communities

Education & Experience

A combination of education and related experience may substitute for education requirements.

•   Bachelor’s degree in communications, political science, public policy, or related field and
•   2 years’ experience in grant writing, editing, communications, and/or other aspects of nonprofit administration
