General Nature & Scope of Work

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller manages the accounting operations of the organization, including budgeting, auditing, payroll, account payable and receivable, general ledger and financial reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, and internal policies and procedures of LINC. This role oversees implementation of financial systems and supports new efforts to improve financial performance of the organization. The Controller also interfaces with management to implement effective financial strategies and reports for LINC, Corporate Fund, and related affiliates, as well as LINC’s portfolio of affordable housing assets. This position assumes responsibility for the financial functions including review financial performance for LINC and for the properties under LINC management. Assures discrete management and coordination of confidential business information, projects and communications.

Illustrative Examples of Work/Essential Functions

•   Advise and support the CFO and other key members of senior management on accounting related issues, financial planning including but not limited to budgeting & forecasting, cash flow management and policy matters.
•   Audit cash flow, monitors reserve accounts, controls bank accounts (coordinates, prepares communications and monitors disbursements from account).
•   Responsible for timely and accurate financial reporting for LINC, including financial statements, exhibits.
•   Has responsibility for coordinating all budgets for the organization and monitors the execution of the budget in relation to actual organization performance.
•   Oversee and prepare large volume of financial reports on managed properties and LINC businesses for Board.
•   Recommend and implement financial systems such as process for establishing bank accounts and cash management procedures (both for LINC and those under LINC control).
•   Manage accounting department staff consisting of general administrative accounting, project development accounting and property management accounting for properties managed by LINC.
•   Coordinate and manage year-end audit and tax return process; review audits and tax returns, coordinates with investors, auditors, Asset Management and property management team.
•   Communicate with LINC’s independent auditors on an ongoing basis. Facilitate and manage the organization’s annual audit and tax compliance requirements.
•   Upgrade and implement an appropriate system of policies, internal controls, accounting procedures.
•   Serve as the management liaison to the board and audit committee, effectively communicate and present critical financial matters at select board of directors and committee meetings.
•   Represent the organization externally, as necessary, particularly in banking and lease negotiations.
•   Improve administrative and operational accounting services such as treasury management, 401(k) plan, accounting receivable, payroll, accounts payable and purchasing.
•   Oversee Human Resources, IT and Facilities.
•   Responsible to oversee the design, development and implementation of organizational information systems, software applications, and IT support and infrastructure systems.
•   Oversee Risk Management, resource allocation, project prioritization, research and recommendation of new systems and software products and services.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of:
•   GAAP accounting
•   Real Estate accounting practices as they pertain to operating properties and construction/development
•   Accepted methodologies for budgeting and cash forecasting
•   Cash disbursement policies and procedures
•   Payroll management and processing
•   Auditing procedures and practices
•   Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable process
•   Employee management practices
Skill Level:
•   Superior writing and communication skills
•   Strong analytical skills, financial management
•   Proficient in the use of personal computers and related software applications for accounting management, e.g. QuickBooks, Excel
•   Excellent interpersonal skills for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other department heads, investors and other business stakeholders
Ability to:
•   Develop and prepare budgets
•   Forecast cash needs of business
•   Manage and perform Real Estate accounting
•   Manage an Accounting staff and department function
•   Set and manage multiple priorities in growing environment
•   Manage, direct and supervise accounting staff

Education & Experience

A combination of education and related experience may substitute for education requirements.

•   BA in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field, CPA preferred and
•   5+ years experience in Real Estate accounting
