Anderson Valley Post, July 6, 2011
By Pamela Britton-Baer
The City of Anderson approved a resolution that could mean the construction of 33 new
affordable housing units. On July 5, the City Council authorized the submission of an
application to the HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME). If the application is
approved, it could mean $5.1 million for the City of Anderson to use toward affordable
housing.
LINC Housing has proposed to build the development on Diamond Street and Cory Lane. The
city would allocate up to $5 million dollars for construction which would be re-paid to
the city in future years.
As part of our application, said Sidhartha Paul, Director of Acquisitions for
LINC Housing, we promise a certain level of services.
The proposed project will have one, 16 two-bedroom unit and one, 16 three-bedroom unit,
plus one managers unit. Residents with incomes ranging from 30 to 60 percent of
Andersons median income will be eligible to live in the new development.
LINC Housings web site claims, Our communities are known for excellent design,
outstanding management, and life-enhancing services.
Those life-enhancing services could include: After-School Programs, Health and Well-being,
Financial Counseling Services and Volunteer Resource Management.
We are not an absentee owner, said Paul.
According to the Project Summary submitted to the city council, Diamond Court
Apartments would feature a tot lot and play equipment for children, a
swimming pool with spa and a large community space where resident services programs and
other residential events would take place.
The city council voted unanimously to adopt the resolution.
