In Los Angeles, the fair market rent for a two-bedroom apartment is $1,361*.
With minimum wage at $8 per hour, many low-income working families find it
impossible to meet rent and have enough left over for food, clothing and
other necessities, not to mention an occasional meal out or special gift
for a child that so many others take for granted.

If progress proceeds as planned, 112 families in the Los Angeles area
will have access to affordable homes when Lorena Apartments is completed.
Located in the Boyle Heights neighborhood in Los Angeles, Lorena Apartments,
a joint venture between LINC Housing and Global Premier Development, Inc.,
will offer 63 two-bedroom and 49 three-bedroom homes in two four-story
buildings, all designed in California contemporary style. The all-new complex
will also include picnic and barbeque areas, a playground and a
recreation center.
Los Angeles is one of the most expensive rental markets in the nation,
so theres always a tremendous need for affordable homes for working
families living in the area, said Hunter L. Johnson, LINC president
and CEO. We recently received a grant from the JPMorgan Chase Foundation,
partly due to our work in this neighborhood. The Foundation is currently
focused on an initiative to revitalize Boyle Heights through transformative
grant making in community development, education, and arts and culture, and
were pleased we share the same vision for the area.
